Lamai, Tanzania

Ultimate Experience of Great Migration Safari in Tanzania

Witness epic river crossings of the great migration with a luxury safari in the remote Lamai triangle

Introduction

A true off the beaten path destination, the Lamai Triangle is a land of gentle rolling hills scattered with acacia trees that stretches across the northern tip of Serengeti National Park. The mighty Mara River marks its southern border and is famed for its wildebeest crossings as they leap from the Serengeti savanna onto the lush plains of Masai Mara in Kenya during the annual Great Migration (July – October). The region’s fresh water and ample grasslands also provide a haven for zebra and wildebeest during the dry winter months (July – November) and you can expect to see plenty of big cats, ostrich, lions, cheetahs, elephants and giraffes, in addition to crocodile and hippopotamus in the Mara River.

Best For

A genuine back-to-nature experience in the African wilderness. With a remote location on the Mara River, this is the best place to see the incredible wildlife show that is the wildebeest river crossing.

When to visit

Close to the equator, Tanzania has a temperate climate that averages around 15-30 °C (59-86 °F) year-round. Game drives and safari walks reveal an abundance of animals at any time of the year, but wildlife viewing is generally best in the dry season (July – October,) with the chance to see wildebeest crossing the Mara River as a definite highlight.

The Spirit of Africa

With a stunning location on a sweeping riverbend, Singita Mara River Tented Camp evokes the spirit of a classic east Africa safari but with ample contemporary comfort. The epitome of safari chic, guests are treated to laid back luxury with 4 en suite tents and 2 family tents, all beautifully adorned with handcrafted furniture and inspirational works of art by young African designers. Providing a remote and truly authentic nature experience, the camp is off the grid and peacefully powered by solar. Its scenic location makes it one of the best places in Tanzania to see the river crossings of the wildebeest, directly from the viewing platform.
